“Mommy” Web Site Posts Blog Supporting Abortion

Last week, I wrote about an article posted on parenting site Mommyish that supported abortion. (Yes, this was the article with the “adorable cats.”)

Today, I have another “mommy blog” post to share with you. This one, too, sadly supports abortion as a viable choice for women. What’s possibly even more sad is that, for these parenting sites to write about abortion, they must be realizing an important truth: abortion is a choice that a parent makes. As soon as a baby begins to exist in her mother’s womb, her mother is just that – a mother.

Abortion doesn’t “undo” your parent status. It doesn’t make you an un-mommy. You remain a mother, a father, a parent. You’re just the parent of a dead child – one whom you helped to destroy.

This time, the post supporting abortion comes from Blunt Moms. A large picture heading accompanies the short post. Here it is:

decision

This picture is followed by the story of a woman who had an abortion at the age of 18. She writes that the decision was difficult to come by and painful. She also states that she still believes it was the right decision, all these years later. But the few telling moments in her testimony cause me to grieve for her and for the life that was.

She writes:

Don’t get me wrong, I still wonder what if… wonder if it would have been a girl or a boy, wonder if he or she would look like my children that I have now. But that happens less and less as time goes by.

I believe we should all be afforded the opportunity to make choices for ourselves and not be harmed or judged by others who have not stood for a moment in our shoes.

But it’s not if the baby “would have been a girl or a boy.” The baby was a girl or a boy. Gender is determined at the time of our first existence. This mother’s baby began as the very same person he or she would have been today, if the baby had been allowed to grow up. Our uniqueness is with us from the very beginning. It is inherent in who we are created to be, as a individual human being with an individual soul and an individual purpose.

We’ve talked about the problem with “choice” again and again. There are many “choices” we outlaw as a civilized society. When a choice affects others in negative and cruel ways, a humane society restricts or prohibits the choice.

And while this mother believes that some who speak have not stood in her shoes, I would put forth that she did not stand for a moment in her baby’s shoes. Sadly, her baby never stood for a moment at all – not in shoes and not out of them. He was denied that chance. And his shoes will never be filled by anyone.

Ironically, nothing could be more true than the heading this mother chose to give her article: “If it’s not your body it’s not your decision.”
