Claudia and Jon Turner are inspiring parents who made a grim discovery upon going to their baby’s first ultrasound scan. The Turners discovered their newborn baby had been diagnosed with spina bifida — a condition that would leave their baby dealing with a significant disability.

From a story on the story:

Imagine going along to your baby’s first scan and discovering your unborn child has a condition that will almost certainly mean he/she will be physically and possibly mentally disabled.

Would you have an abortion? Increasingly New Zealanders are. Figures I’ve seen suggest around 75 per cent of babies with spina bifida, for example, are terminated.

However there are those who believe that everyone born or unborn should have a chance at life. Claudia and Jon Turner are among them.

For the Turners, abortion simply isn’t an option and when they learned their baby would be abnormal they named her Eva – meaning life. They started making plans for their fourth child not knowing if Eva would live up to her name.

Pro-Life New Zealand applauded their decision to reject abortion.

“Placed in a situation where in most cases the parents choose to undergo an abortion, Claudia and Jon present a rather different, more positive message that I believe belongs here in a pro-life setting: Everyone deserves a chance at life, no matter how brief that life may be. That we do not, and should not, make the choice for another that their life is not worth living,” the group said.

Instead, they gave birth to Eva, who the New Zealand media has dubbed the Little Battler.

“Claudia and Jon’s family is all the richer for little Eva. That is what Eva means after all – life,” Pro-Life New Zealand says.
