Pro-life former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan (R) will face pro-abortion Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) in a special general election on October 16. The winner will fill New Jersey’s Senate seat for the remainder of late Senator Frank Lautenberg’s term ending January 3, 2015.
Senator Jeffrey Chiesa (R), who was appointed to fill the seat until the special election winner is sworn in, declined to run in the special election.
What are the candidates’ positions on life?
Abortion, Abortion Funding, & Late Abortion
Steve Lonegan opposes abortion on demand, supports legal protection for unborn children, and opposes using your tax dollars to pay for abortion on demand.
Steve Lonegan supports the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation to protect unborn children from abortion after he or she is capable of experiencing pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion techniques.
Cory Booker supports a policy of abortion on demand, which allows abortion for any reason. Cory Booker supports using your tax dollars to pay for abortion on demand, and supports providing federal funds to abortion providers.
At a pro-abortion rally, Booker reminded abortion providers that as co-chair of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, he worked to “affirm a woman’s right to choose”. Booker, known for his controversial tweets, recently tweeted that he was “proud and inspired by her courage”, referring to Texas state Senator Wendy Davis, who stood for eleven hours for the right to kill unborn babies.
Obamacare
Obamacare will provide government funding in many states for insurance plans that pay for abortion on demand, and will lead to the rationing of lifesaving medical treatments.
Steve Lonegan opposes Obamacare and believes it should not be implemented. Cory Booker supports the pro-abortion, pro-rationing Obamacare law.

Polling
58% of New Jersey voters went for Obama in 2012.
On October 8, Quinnipiac University released a new poll showing Lonegan closing in on Booker’s lead. In a closer-than-expected race, Booker is leading among likely voters 53% to 41%, with 5% undecided and 6% likely to change their minds before the October 16 election. Originally, the spread had Booker ahead of Lonegan by 35%.
Lonegan’s campaign claims the race is within 3%. With New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg suddenly pouring $1 million into Booker’s ad campaign, one might wonder if it is true.
