Officials responded yesterday to a call from Baylor University Medical Center, where authorities discovered the body of a newborn baby in a bathroom area of the emergency room.

Dallas police have begun an investigation and the woman believed to be the mother of the baby has been discovered. The Dallas Morning News has more information:

Investigators say they’ve located the teenage girl who is believed to be the mother.

Because she’s a juvenile, she won’t be identified, and it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed.

Dallas police child abuse detectives are investigating the discovery of a dead fetus in an emergency room bathroom at the Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.

“Apparently there was a fetus found in the restroom in the emergency room area,” said Dallas police Lt. Paul Stokes, a department spokesman. “They’re over there working on it right now.”

Someone found the fetus and called police this morning.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video in an effort to try to identify the mother, Stokes said. Detectives have been at the scene for more than an hour, Stokes said.

Baylor hospital officials referred questions to the Dallas police.
