Workers at a garbage facility’s recycling plant found a dead baby on a conveyer belt yesterday in yet another case of an abandoned newborn. Several recent cases in the United States and elsewhere have received national and international attention.

According to CBS News:

A worker discovered the baby on a conveyor belt while he was sorting garbage at Athens Services on the 14000 block of East Valley Boulevard around 2 p.m.

The company, which processes waste from all over Southern California, uses conveyor belts to help workers separate trash into recycling containers.

The baby was taken to the coroner’s office for an autopsy.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives from the city of Industry are investigating the incident.

In China, the mother of the baby who has made international headlines after he was rescued from a toilet sewage pipe says the incident was an accident. She also claims she wanted an abortion but was unable to afford one. She was a victim of China’s forced-abortion one-child policy.
