The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 12-10 on a strict party-line vote for Thomas Perez, President Barack Obama’s nominee to lead the Department of Labor.

No Republicans voted for the nominee and if Democrats attempt a Senate floor vote, GOP lawmakers will likely filibuster the nomination. And with the numerous scandals the Obama administration is facing, a filibuster is almost a certainty.

“This is particularly concerning in light of the current abuses of power we’ve seen from this administration,” Sen. Lamar Alexander, Tennessee Republican and the committee’s ranking Republican, said at the hearing.

Perez faces oppositions from pro-life advocates because he targeted them previously and ignored Planned Parenthood sex-trafficking issues.

“In his tenure as the head of the Civil Rights Division in Eric Holder’s corrupt Department of Justice, Perez has overtly politicized the justice system to advance his own leftist ideology,” says Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel. “He attempted to implement a nation-wide demonization of peaceful pro-lifers using false charges.”

“President Obama wants to promote Thomas Perez to Secretary of Labor where he will oversee the federal agency responsible for enforcing employer non-discrimination laws, hiring practices, and fairness in the nation’s workplaces,” Staver added.

Staver explained the pro-life issues more in-depth in an email to LifeNews.

“August of 2010, the Liberty Counsel litigation team represented Susan Pine, a well-known pro-life sidewalk counselor in Florida,” he said. “Using the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) for cover, Thomas Perez, in his role as chief attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, alleged that Pine “obstructed” a car entering a Florida abortion clinic nearly a year earlier. The DOJ’s suit alleged that Pine posed an “immediate threat” and therefore must be fined the maximum penalty of $10,000.”

He concluded: “In the end, the federal judge hearing the complaint severely reprimanded Perez for frivolously filing the suit with no valid evidence and no corroborating witnesses to the alleged infraction. As Liberty Counsel conclusively proved in court, there was no infraction in the first place! Liberty Counsel showed Thomas Perez to be a politically motivated prosecutor enacting the will of a corrupt Attorney General and a President intent on doing the bidding of pro-abortion forces, all for political reasons.”

Perez has already been exposed for his connections with pro-abortion liberal billionaire George Soros.
