Study Shows Increased Risk of Pre-Term Birth Following Abortion

Pro-aborts like to claim that, because abortion is legal, it is therefore safe. The risks associated with abortions are hushed up, downplayed, or flat-out denied. Science and medicine, however, refuse to cooperate with the pro-abortion agenda, and the risks and after-effects associated with abortion continue to be brought to light.

There have been previous studies showing a link between abortion and pre-term birth. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University in Montreal has just released another one, proving yet again that this link between abortion and pre-term birth is, indeed, real.

Of the total of 17,916 women included in the study, 2276 (13%) had undergone one prior induced abortion, and 862 (5%) had undergone two or more prior induced abortions.

The researchers found that, on average, women who had one prior induced abortion were 45% more likely to have premature births by 32 weeks, 71% more likely to have premature births by 28 weeks, and 117% more likely to have premature births by 26 weeks.

The study also found that the risk of premature births increased in women who had more than one prior abortion.

“Our study showed a significant increase in the risk of preterm delivery in women with a history of previous induced abortion,” said lead researcher Dr. Ghislain Hardy. “This association was stronger with decreasing gestational age,” she concluded.

There are many risks associated with pre-term birth, and it’s likely that women aren’t being told of the risks they’re taking on when they have an abortion. And on this subject especially, they should be warned. Half of all abortions in the United States, for example, are repeat abortions, meaning that the women who get them are at an even higher risk in future pregnancies. What effect could that have on their decision to go through with their abortion, knowing that they’d be risking the health of any babies they have in the future?

This is just one in a long list of risks associated with abortion. Women who have abortions are at risk for higher mortality rates, serious medical injuries or death, mental health problems, depression, suicide, and breast cancer.

Would pro-aborts agree that women should be told of these risks before undergoing an abortion? Absolutely not. They’ll sneer that these fears are fake, or that women don’t need to be told because they somehow already know all of the medical risks associated with abortion (as well as every detail of what’s going on developmentally with their pregnancy), or just brush it off as “anti-woman.” They don’t want women being fully informed about the risks they’re taking. Women deserve to know the truth, but they won’t…not if the abortion industry has anything to say about it, that is.

Women are told that abortions are safe, but with doctors uncovering more and more risks associated with abortion, can we really afford to keep telling that lie?
