Last month, NRL News Today ran a story written by Kathy Ostrowski, Legislative Director for Kansans for Life, headlined “Kansans recoil at upcoming abortion business opening at Wichita location.” Here is her opening paragraph:
“Ever since the death of George Tiller in May 2009, there’s been a national push to re-open his late-term abortion clinic, led by the abortion advocacy group, Trust Women. That organization is run by Julie Burkhart, a one-time Tiller employee who ran his Political Action Committee from 2002-2009. That effort is, unfortunately, apparently closer than ever to success.”
Alas, this brief update can only confirm that Burkhart is even closer to success.
The South Wind Women’s Center (SWWC) is “expected to open in the next few months with one full-time and two part-time doctors amid heightened security and community outreach efforts,” according to the Associated Press. Burkhart says SWWC “will offer prenatal, obstetrical and gynecological health care services as well 
as abortions.” In a “virtual chat” online at the Trust Women website this fall, those services were touted as medical (chemically-induced) abortions, and fertility services.
The New York Times runneth over with praise for Ms. Burkhart, as the latest story that ran Tuesday demonstrates yet again. She is ”step[ping] into the void” left when Tiller was killed, the headline tells us.
And it’s not enough for the Times’ John Eligon to tell us how trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind (sorry, I inadvertently started channeling the Scout Law). There is this amazing observation.
“This was a building that was full of love and compassion for women,” Burkhart tells Eligon. “To me, this feels like a very positive space.”
For those who may not know, Tiller specialized in late-late term abortions, the kind only a handful of abortionists had the stomach to perform. As Ostrowski wrote last month, “Burkhart continues to try to erase this community’s memory of the Tiller location as the home of an actual onsite crematorium for the bodies of unborn children who were destroyed up through the third trimester.”

One other quick word, from an even more laudatory profile that ran last month in the Daily Beast. Allison Yarrow ends her puff piece with this unintentionally revealing quote:
“Inside South Wind Women’s Center, Burkhart’s daughter arrives along with a family friend bringing paint and the friend’s two young girls. The children scamper around the empty clinic lobby in tiaras, filling the place with laughter. Burkhart’s daughter pauses for a minute to tell her mom she is scared of the ‘creepy” empty surgery space, which looks like where ‘zombies might have run people out.’
“Her mother shakes her head. ‘We’re working on it.’”
