Former Komen Vice President Karen Handel has authored “Planned Bullyhood: The Truth Behind the Headlines about the Planned Parenthood Funding Battle with Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” an insider’s account of how one of the most beloved American charities found itself the target of a vicious, orchestrated attack that threatened to run it out of business.

In January, news leaked that Komen would defund Planned Parenthood. Three days later Komen reversed, with apologies.

Handel’s description of what occurred in those three days is stunning. Threats came from affiliates, from corporate donors, from Congress. Planned Parenthood’s friends in the media all piled on, as well as their friends in the White House. It took only 72 hours before Komen got the message and the Planned Parenthood abortion business got the cash.

It was a masterful professional take-down of a venerable and beneficent charity. James Taranto of the Wall Street Journal likened it to a protection racket: “Nice charity you’ve got there. It’d be a shame if anything happened to it.”

Now, Handel will participate in a panel discussion sponsored by the Family Research Council on the political thuggery of Planned Parenthood, also featuring Jeanne Monahan, President of the March for Life and author of the FRC booklet America’s Abortion Provider: What Everyone Should Know about Planned Parenthood and Cathy Ruse, Senior Fellow for Legal Studies at FRC.

“If you want the real story behind Planned Parenthood’s partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, don’t miss this Thursday’s policy lecture at FRC with former Komen VP Karen Handel,” says FRC president Tony Perkins.
