“Raise Your Hand for Life,” Care Net’s 15th annual National Pregnancy Center Conference, began with a prayer rally that drew more than 400 men and women to pray for an end to abortion in America and commit themselves to taking positive, life-affirming steps to decrease abortions in their communities.

The rally was followed by three days of intensive training for more than 1300 pregnancy center leaders and ministry friends. Attendees benefitted from 71 workshops featuring expert speakers on topics including human resources, issue advocacy, marketing, fundraising, medical best practices, and more. During break times, they were able to browse 80 exhibits.

Keynote addresses featured Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde, Prison Fellowship Ministries President Garland Hunt, American Association of Christian Counselors President Tim Clinton, ED.D., Bishop G.O. Glenn (Pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church), Institute for Cultural Communicators President Teresa Moon, author Julie Ziglar Norman and actress Shari Rigby.

On the final night of the conference (9/12/12), Cindy Hopkins, Vice President of Center Services at Care Net, announced the winner of a scholarship competition sponsored by Care Net and Regent University. Scholarship winner Ursula Penn, of Martinsville, VA, was awarded a full four year scholarship to Regent University through the competition. Her application was submitted through the Pregnancy Care Center of MHC, Inc. Penn called winning the scholarship “a second chance.” She plans to study to be a high school history teacher. Penn said the scholarship would benefit not only herself, but her six week old daughter, Ariyelle, as well.

Delahoyde released the following statement:

“What stands out to me about our pregnancy center staff is their love for women and for all who have been affected by abortion. Pregnancy center staff and volunteers are committed to being part of the solution to unplanned pregnancies – providing hope and practical support that empowers life-affirming decisions in their communities. It was a joy to be with so many motivated and compassionate leaders this week.”

Care Net has announced plans to hold its next national conference September 4-7, 2013, in Denver, Colorado.
