One of the three attackers who killed a Canadian man made the man’s pregnant girlfriend listen to his horrible murder on her telephone. The overwhelming trauma of the ordeal caused her to go into premature labor.

The Sun News Network reported on the details, which were provided to a court in a hearing in the criminal case:

In a videotaped statement to police, Sasha Bellhumer said she spoke to her then-boyfriend, Aaron Stevens, in the early-morning hours of June 29, 2008. And what she heard so shocked her, she went into premature labour and had a baby boy within hours, Bellhumer told lead investigator Sgt. Dave Jennings.

Bellhumer’s taped statement, along with her preliminary inquiry testimony, was presented to jurors after she failed to show up to testify.

In the video, introduced into evidence by defence lawyer Tonii Roulston, Bellhumer discussed her phone conversations with Stevens around the time of Daniel Levesque’s killing.

“I don’t know how long we were on the phone for, but I heard screaming and … stabbing,” Bellhumer said in the interview. “I remember hearing, like stabbing and the guy yelling,” Bellhumer said. “And I was telling him to stop and I started crying.”

She told Jennings she didn’t want to hear what was going on. “I hung up and then he called me back and he made me listen, he made me listen to what was happening,” she said.
