Human Life International (HLI) President Father Shenan J. Boquet and the entire HLI family are mourning the loss of Sister Mary Pilar Verzosa, RGS, founder of Pro-Life Philippines, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 67.

HLI founder Father Paul Marx was a significant influence on Sister Pilar who began the modern fight to protect the unborn and the dignity of all human life in the Philippines in the 1970s. After learning about the pro-life work of Father Marx, Sister Pilar invited him to the Philippines in 1975 to give a lecture in Manila. Sister Pilar established Pro-Life Philippines following the lecture to work for the protection of life in her country.

“Myself and HLI’s pro-life missionaries offer our prayers of thanksgiving for Sister’s work throughout the years and pray for her peaceful rest with our Lord,” said Father Boquet.

“The battle in the Philippines is one of the most important in HLI’s work to defend the sanctity of life around the world,” Father Boquet said. “HLI Philippines is a leading voice for the defense of life, especially now when the anti-life Reproductive Health (RH) Bill has come so close to passage. We pray that all those engaged in the Lord’s work to protect life will be blessed by His grace in their daily efforts.”
