Mitt Romney Unveils New Ad Blasting Obama on Obamacare

Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign released a new television advertisement today titled “Nothing’s Free” that takes the first direct attack at Obamacare and President Barack Obama’s support of it.

“President Obama’s healthcare law has come at a high cost. Whether it is taxing wheelchairs and pacemakers or cutting Medicare, free healthcare has come at a very high price,’ the campaign said.

While pro-life advocates strongly opposed Obamacare over its abortion-funding components, the Romney campaign hits Obamacare over other aspects.

“Some think Obamacare is the same as free healthcare,” the ad says. “But nothing is free. Obama is raiding $716 billion from Medicare, changing the program forever. Taxing wheelchairs and pacemakers. Raising taxes on families making less than one hundred and twenty thousand dollars. Free healthcare comes at a very high price.”

“The Romney-Ryan plan will restore Medicare funding and protect and strengthen the program for the next generation,” the ad continues.

The reference to wheelchairs and pacemakers hits on some of the rationing concerns pro-lifers had about how health care will be adversely affected by Obamacare. It is a reference to a 2009 USA Today article which states:

“The industry that makes wheelchairs, pacemakers and other medical devices has launched a lobbying blitz to kill a tax on its products proposed in a health care bill moving through the Senate. The $40 billion, 10-year tax is one of several new fees included in the Senate Finance Committee’s health care legislation. It has drawn significant opposition from Democrats — many of whom have large medical device makers in their states.”
