Democrats Forced to Apologize for Making Fun of MS Patient Ann Romney

The Democratic Party has egg on its face today after being forced to apologize for running a campaign ad that essentially made fun of a patient with multiple sclerosis, the wife of presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The Democratic National Committee unveiled a video this week featuring footage of Ann Romney’s dancing show horse as a way of mocking Mitt Romney for “dancing” around the issue of his taxes and whether he would make public additional tax returns that the IRS has certified are legitimate. The video was meant to be the first in a series of videos on the topic and the first featured the horse, owned jointly by Ann and Mitt Romney.

However, Ann Romney owns the horse in part because she relies on the animal, and other show horses she trains, to help her with therapy for her multiple sclerosis, a debilitating disease. Ann Romney, in an interview with Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America,” took offense to the ad.

That eventually led DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse told ABC News to issue an apology of sorts.

“Our use of the Romneys’ dressage horse was not meant to offend Mrs. Romney in any way, and we regret it if it did,” he said. “We have no plans to invoke the horse any further to avoid misinterpretation.”

President Barack Obama has long said families are off-limits in political campaigns, but John Hayward of Human Events says his friends at the DNC apparently forgot that and he shared a video (below) of potential vice-presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty defending Romney.

“Today’s dose of Chicago thug politics comes from whichever genius at the Democrat National Committee decided it would be a good idea to mock Ann Romney and her dressage horse in a campaign video,” he said. “And if the desperate Democrats have to open fire on Mitt Romney’s family, and the horse his wife uses as part of her multiple sclerosis therapy, to make you forget about Obama’s full-throated embrace of Marxist theory in Virginia last weekend, then so be it!  Only Democrat families are off-limits to political attack, you see.”

“The Party that declared war on “out-of touch” stay-at-home-moms in a pre-emptive strike on Ann Romney now thinks she should spend more time at home, and less time out at the stables,” he continued.
