Minnesota: Planned Parenthood Brings Abortion Drug to Rochester

The Planned Parenthood abortion business has expanded its use of the dangerous abortion drug in Minnesota, and it is now giving the pill that has killed dozens of women and injured more than 2,200 more to women in Rochester.
Connie Lewis, Vice President of External Affairs for Planned Parenthood Minnesota, told the Rochester Post Bulletin, “In recent months, we have begun providing a limited number of medicinal abortions at the Rochester clinic.”

Calling the statement a “rare public admission,” Scott Fischbach, Executive Director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, said he found it “disturbing that Planned Parenthood is now killing unborn children in Rochester using deadly RU 486, a drug combination that is so dangerous that is has been banned in many countries, including Canada.”

“At least 14 women are known to have died in the U.S. from this abortion drug,” he said, citing new figures from April from the Food and Drug Administration.

Fischbach is also disappointed because the Minnesota Department of Health just released its 2010 Abortion Report showing that the state now has its lowest abortion rate on record, and the lowest number of abortions done on women and unborn children on women in Minnesota since the early 1970’s. The 2010 Abortion Report data included the fact that Planned Parenthood was the only agency in the state that increased its abortions performed statewide last year. Now Planned Parenthood Minnesota has expanded its abortion operations to a second location for the first time, and the state’s low abortion rate is sure to increase, Fischbach said.

“The expansion of chemical abortions to Rochester is further proof that Planned Parenthood is abortion obsessed,” Fischbach said. “Planned Parenthood’s focus is to make as much money as possible by killing as many unborn children as possible, any way it can. This expansion of abortion in Minnesota is a tragedy.”

The health department report reveals the decrease is part of a three-year trend of fewer abortions statewide since the Positive Alternatives program has funded efforts to help pregnant women in need. The annual Abortion Report shows abortion businesses in the state reported a total of 12,388 abortions in 2009 compared with 12,948 the previous year. The 2009 total is the lowest number on record since 1975, showing a historic drop.

Positive Alternatives is one of several pro-life legislative efforts by Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) to offer women life-affirming alternatives to abortion and to significantly reduce the number of unborn babies aborted each year. MCCL indicates a MDH report showed that more than 12,000 women statewide were helped through the Positive Alternatives program in its first two years and another 6,000 women received help in the program’s third year.

The RU 486 drug cocktail kills the unborn baby by cutting off nutrients from the uterine wall that the baby needs to survive. Once the unborn child is suffocated, a second drug is taken to induce contractions strong enough to expel the dead baby.
