Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul is out with a new television commercial for his campaign in Iowa that emphasizes his pro-life values and features former patients of his.

While many voters know Paul is a three-time presidential candidate and a Republican congressman from Texas who takes libertarian positions on many issues, Iowa votes may not know hide is an OBGYN who has delivered thousands of babies and the television ad reminds them of that fact.

The ad says Paul is “committed to protecting life” and has delivered more than 4,000 babies. The patients say life begins at conception and they trusted Dr. Paul, “because you knew he cared about you.” The commercial also emphasizes his Christian faith and says “Washington didn’t change Ron.”

Although Paul is pro-life, Tom McClusky of the Family Research Council says the ad did not talk about the times during which Paul has not voted for pro-life legislation because he believes pro-life issues should be left to the states to decide. As such, he has voted against pro-life legislation in Congress to limit abortions or unethical bioethics practices.

“Ron Paul’s new pro-life ad neglects to mention he voted for cloning and against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act,” McClusky said on Twitter today.
