Planned Parenthood Attacks Newt Gingrich’s Pro-Life Record

Newt Gingrich is the latest whipping boy for the Planned Parenthood abortion business as it has taken on Republican candidate Mitt Romney in recent weeks and now trains its sights on Gingrich as he has climbed in the polls.

In a new blog post on its political action web site, the abortion business called him a “featured chump,” saying, “Gingrich may have a reputation for “big ideas,” but his record on women’s health can best be characterized as backward and wrong. With his rapid rise in the polls, he’s catching our attention too–as a Featured Chump.”

By replacing the world abortion with women’s health, Planned Parenthood makes it look like Gingrich’s longstanding pro-life record in Congress — he voted pro-life 98 percent of the time according to the National Right to Life Committee — is one of voting against women.

“During his 20-year stint in Congress, Newt Gingrich earned his anti-women’s health stripes,” Planned Parenthood claims. “Representative Gingrich cast 74 votes on reproductive rights, and all but two of them were anti-women’s health — putting him on the wrong side of women’s health 97 percent of the time.”

Planned Parenthood complains:  “If anything, Gingrich’s position on women’s health has gotten WORSE since he left office in 1999. Just a few weeks ago, Gingrich said he supports a federal “life at conception” amendment and thinks Congress should use its authority to “define life and therefore undo all Roe v. Wade for the entire country in one legislative action.”

The abortion business complains that Gingrich favors revoking the millions in taxpayer dollars it gets from the federal government and yanking funding for the Title X family planning program that funnels millions more in taxpayer funds to its coffers.

“But that’s not all! In an effort to increase his appeal with the far right, he signed the Susan B. Anthony List’s anti-women’s health pledge, promising to, advance “pro-life” legislation, defund Planned Parenthood, nominate strict constructionist judges to the federal bench, and select only “pro-life” appointees for relevant Cabinet and executive branch positions,” the post concludes. “While he may be gaining “Newtmentum,” his record against women is unwavering. One thing’s for sure, no matter how big the line of credit he has at Tiffany’s—he’ll always be a serious Chump to us.”

LifeNews reporter Andrew Bair has extensively profiled Gingrich’s pro-life views.

Gingrich’s voting record on pro-life issues reflected the consensus pro-life views of the majority of Americans.

Gingrich voted in favor of a ban on partial-birth abortion. (President Clinton ultimately vetoed the bill and a ban was not signed into law until President Bush took office.) Gingrich also voted to cut federal funding to organizations that perform or promote abortions abroad, including the United Nations Population Fund, which is complicit in carrying out China’s One Child Policy. In addition, Gingrich supported restrictions on funding for assisted suicide.

In the 2012 presidential race, Gingrich has pledged to appoint pro-life judges to the Supreme Court, end taxpayer funding of abortion, de-fund Planned Parenthood and sign into law a federal Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  Gingrich is also committed to repealing the pro-abortion Obama healthcare law, which contains massive abortion funding and threats of rationing.
