As Americans head to the polls in numerous states today for off-year elections, pro-life advocates are looking forward to the fact that, as of this past weekend, there is one year left until they can vote out pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, is one of those pro-life activists who is ready to replace the man who many consider to be the most pro-abortion president the nation has had since the infamous 1973 Supreme Court decisions allowing virtually unlimited abortions.
“One year from today, I know that at this very moment I’ll most likely either be on my knees in prayer or huddled around a computer with my staff watching results from key battleground states come in,” Dannenfelser says. “You see, exactly one year from today is Election Day.”
“That means we’re either one year away from finally putting a stop to the Obama administration’s deadly assault on unborn children and their mothers… One year until we can usher in authentic pro-life champions to the White House and Congress – leaders who will fight for laws to protect our country’s most innocent lives,” Dannenfelser added. “Or, we could be one year away from a massive loss that would set the pro-life cause back for generations.”
While much of the attention has been on the Republican nomination race to find a replacement for Obama, Dannenfelser says the pro-life movement must come together when that process is done and focus on defeating Obama.
“The SBA List has been focused on securing concrete pro-life commitments from each of the presidential candidates hoping to replace Barack Obama. This effort has been wildly successful, and isn’t quite done yet,” she said. “But now that we’re a year out, we must have a laser-like focus on exposing President Obama’s extreme record on abortion and laying the groundwork for victory in key battleground states.”
Dannenfelser says pro-life voters need to get to work laying the groundwork for the 2012 presidential election because pro-abortion activists already are making preparations to defend Obama and give him another four years to advance abortion.
“While a year may seem like a long time for some, the truth is this: The pro-abortion movement is already geared up and is building a massive war chest to defend their top political ally,” she said. “Look no further for evidence of this than earlier this fall, when Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards and EMILY’s List president Stephanie Schriock gathered with other leaders of the pro-abortion lobby in New York City to raise money for the Obama Victory Fund. Michelle Obama attended the event because her husband was attending another New York City fundraiser where the price per couple was $71,600.”
Dannenfelser says the Obama pro-abortion record is clear.
“Since President Obama was first elected in 2008, we have watched in horror as the Obama administration has: Vowed to shut down the federal government in order to protect Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer-funded handout which now surpasses over $300 million a year, threatened to withhold Medicaid from Indiana after they voted to defund the nation’s Abortion Giant, defied New Hampshire lawmakers by contracting directly with Planned Parenthood after elected officials stripped the nation’s largest abortion provider of its tax funding, rescinded the Mexico City Policy resulting in our tax dollars going to organizations overseas that perform or promote abortion, launched a horrific assault on the conscience rights of healthcare professionals, and nominated two pro-abortion judges, Elena Kagan and Sonya Sotomayor, to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
“And we can’t forget the ultimate grievance—Obamacare—the biggest expansion of abortion on-demand since Roe v. Wade,” she adds.
The SBA List leader said, “it is time to put an end to President Obama’s radical pro-abortion agenda.”
“For the next year, it is up to us to expose this unconscionable agenda to the voters. We know the truth is on our side, and we know the more American voters learn about Obama’s record, the less inclined they will be to support him in his re-election effort,” she concludes. “One year from today, it is my sincere hope and prayer that together we’ll be celebrating victory for unborn children on Election Night 2012.”
