Pro-Abortion Group NARAL Rips Pro-Lifers Bachmann, Santorum

The leading pro-abortion group NARAL is out with a new fundraising email ripping Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum — two pro-life candidates seeking the Republican nomination for president.

Bachmann and Santorum are the only two candidates named in the new missive from NARAL, which has also blasted pro-life Texas governor and 2012 hopeful Rick Perry in previous fundraising emails.

“How much of your freedom and privacy are you willing to hand over to Michele Bachmann … or Rick Santorum?” NARAL president Nancy Keenan says in the new email.

Keenan is concerned that abortion advocates are not as jazzed about the 2012 elections as are pro-life advocates who are chomping at the bit to replace pro-abortion President Barack Obama, who has compiled a lengthy pro-abortion record.

“Frighteningly, there are pro-choice Americans (women and men) who are ready to give away the right to choose to these anti-choice politicians and other radical presidential candidates in 2012,” Keenan says. “Why? Because these voters don’t see choice as a “deal-breaker” in electing our next president. If that infuriates you, as it does me, then I’m asking you to put your anger into action, and join NARAL Pro-Choice America.”

“We MUST get the word out to voters about the importance of choice in the 2012 elections, elevate the issue of reproductive freedom, and show anti-choice candidates that choice IS a deal-breaker,” Keenan continues. “As part of our dedicated activist base, you’re a powerful voice for reproductive freedom. But with the 2012 elections a little more than a year away and a slew of anti-choice candidates eager to seize power, it’s time to step up your commitment to protecting choice and become a member today.”

“And if we are to protect choice from the likes of Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum in 2012, we need to have you with us,” Keenan concludes.

NARAL has previously said none of the leading Republican presidential candidates are acceptable for its pro-abortion members.

NARAL blasted Michele Bachmann saying she has a 100% pro-life voting record in Congress and that she voted for the House-passed No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act; she voted to prohibit the District of Columbia from using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions. NARAL cited her signing of a pro-life pledge the Susan B. Anthony List put forward and said that, as a Minnesota state legislator, she co-sponsored a constitutional amendment to block public funding of any organization associated with an organization that provides, counsels or refers for abortion.

It also labeled Mitt Romney, Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul as pro-life candidates it can’t support.
