Wisconsin Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Should Lose Funding

The Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee recently voted to direct state and some federal family planning funds to public health agencies and prohibit those agencies from giving the funds to organizations and their affiliates that provide abortions or do abortion referrals. In effect, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, as the state’s largest abortion provider, would not be able to receive these funds. It is far past time for the state and federal governments to stop feeding this abortion giant with taxpayer dollars.

It’s important to note that Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

» Is a $1 billion operation that receives more than $360 million in federal and Wisconsin taxpayer dollars each year.

» Its affiliates performed 332,278 of the nation’s 1.2 million abortions in 2009.

» Saw its adoption referrals fall from 2,405 in 2008 to just 977 in 2009. The abortion to adoption referral ratio is 340 abortions for every adoption referral.

» Saw its prenatal care assistance fall from 9,440 in 2008 to 7,021 in 2009.

» Used Iowa as a testing ground for more than 2,000 web cam RU 486 chemical abortions with plans to export this procedure to other parts of the country. The pregnant woman is not examined by a doctor and receives information by video. Use of the drug in this manner is off-label from approved FDA protocol.

» Has a strategic course that involves expanding its abortion business nationwide, partly by requiring all of its affiliates to perform abortions by 2013.

» Counsels pregnant women and then refers them to its own abortion clinics from which it profits financially — a horrendous conflict of interest.

Also, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin:

» Operates three large abortion clinics in Wisconsin and performed 5,439 abortions in 2009, which comprised 67 percent of Wisconsin abortions.

» Reported no adoption referrals or prenatal care assistance in 2009.

The two organizations sell their need for taxpayer funds by saying abortions will increase if they do not receive family planning taxpayer dollars. In reality, while Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s taxpayer dollars doubled since 1998, the number of abortions it performed increased accordingly.

Planned Parenthood continues to be the most dominant pro-abortion force in Wisconsin, the country and the world. It is outrageous that taxpayers have been forced for years to underwrite this or any organization that profits so immensely from the destruction of human life.
