Abortion activists protested a weekend event honoring pro-life advocate Joe Schiedler of the Pro-Life Action League and the protests involved more than just holding signs or chanting — they included violence.
Shortly after the event, pro-abortion stalwarts slashed the tires of three pro-life advocates and another abortion advocate threatened more violence against him. As posted on the Chicago Independent Media Center website, one pro-abortion person wrote:
On the night of April 2nd, shortly after the pro choice demo against Joe Scheidler, another attack from pro-choice militants was carried out against him and his followers. Three cars of pro-life activists had their tires slashed….Aside from wanting Joe to remove that Indiana Jones [deleted] lookin hat, we hope, and will see to it, that his punk-a** receives constant and aggressive confrontation until he quits the ridiculous anti-choice bull****. Those who attempt to take away ones freedom deserve it not for themselves.
Thomas Peters of Catholic Vote saw the post and responded to it and the violent attitude, saying, “Some pro-abortion activists have completely crossed the line into physical intimidation and acts of violence.”
“This sort of violence and intimidation ought to be quickly and unequivocally condemned. If someone claiming to be pro-life posted something like this, pro-abortion leaders would be clamoring for apologies from the pro-life movement and the media would cover the story,” Peters added.
Peters also said he’s not surprised to see the abortion advocate say “pro-lifers don’t “deserve” basic civil rights” given the recent comments from New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who said at a pro-abortion rally, “These people (referring to the pro-life advocates) don’t deserve the freedoms in the Constitution, but we’ll give it to them anyway.”
Peters added: “Welcome to the “new tolerance” – where the only views not tolerated are views that dissent from the liberal agenda. Please join me in praying for Joe’s safety and for the safety of all those who bravely defend the unborn.”
Jill Stanek, a pro-life blogger, also responded to the post concerning the tire slashing.
“I expect the FBI is involved, which is likely why the Scheidlers haven’t gone public yet. This is as overt confession and threat as I’ve ever seen against pro-lifers,” she said. “Furthermore, these thugs have proven they follow through, cowards as they are. They openly kill helpless little babies by day, but they only vandalize people their own size at night when they’re sleeping or not around.”
“It seems to me this pro-abort terrorist is also taking credit for the previous attack against the Scheidlers. How deserving they were of last Saturday’s tribute for the constant persecution they’ve endured for decades,” Stanek added.
In a related note concerning the event, which saw hundreds of pro-life advocates and more than two dozen leaders from all over the country gathering in downtown Chicago for an “Evening of Tribute” to honor Scheidler, a “flash mob” of dozens of pro-life youth surrounded the pro-life advocate. After leaving the hotel premises, the Chicago Life Mob encountered the abortion supporters in an intersection face off, while the Chicago Police divided the two groups. The youth greeted the virulent “pro-choicers” with joyous chants, music, and prayer.
