Pelosi Wrong: Planned Parenthood Puts Women, Children Last

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi charged today on the House floor that Republican plans to de-fund Planned Parenthood “put women and children last.”  Those who value human life know that is not the case.

Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion provider, and while the national number of abortions (until recently) has been steadily in decline over the past decades, the percentage of these abortions being performed by Planned Parenthood has been steeply on the rise.  Between 1990 and 2007, that percentage rose by 236%.

Furthermore, Planned Parenthood provides far more abortion than any other “service” to pregnant mothers. In 2007 PPFA performed 28 abortions for every one mother receiving prenatal care and 62 abortions for every one adoption referral. They also fought hard against laws that would inform women about abortion’s risks, fetal development, and alternatives to abortion. In fact, they have fought any and all legal limits on abortion, including those the overwhelming majority of Americans approve of.

Opposed informing women about the risk abortion poses to their health and the life of the unborn child; that is not putting women first.

So that leaves us to wonder what up-side-down world Nancy Pelosi inhabits where keeping federal funds from such an operation is bad for women and children. I would argue that by continuing to fund them, the impact has been to put mothers and their unborn babies last.

And let us not forget that Planned Parenthood plans on greatly expanding these abortion “services” in the coming years, REQUIRING their affiliates across the country to perform abortions as a criterion for affiliation. They are cornering the market on taking the lives of innocent children.

So that is the one time they are “putting children first”–first in line to be killed.
