The House of Representatives will vote this week on an amendment that would revoke federal funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business — coming after weeks of national publicity over shocking new videos.
The video footage depicts Planned Parenthood staffers in three states helping and assisting alleged sex traffickers by helping them arrange for abortions and STD testing for the underage girls they said they were exploiting. The footage already led to the firing of one Planned Parenthood official in New Jersey and the abortion business was forced to retrain its employees nationwide because of the national scandal.
The House of Representatives will start consideration today of a continuing resolution budget bill that funds the federal government. The bill contains pro-life fixes for three separate abortion funding problems but it also gives Congressman Mike Pence a chance to float an amendment that would deny federal funds to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates since it is the largest abortion business in the nation.
The House will consider the budget bill in an open amendment process and the Pence amendment is likely slated to come up during the latter stages of the debate — perhaps on Thursday just before a final vote on the budget bill.
The amendment goes beyond even his Title X bill and asks that not one cent be made available “for any purpose”–not only to Planned Parenthood Federation, but to its 100-plus affiliates.
The Pence amendment already has the support of pro-life groups.
“PPFA is the nation’s largest abortion provider, reporting 324,008 abortions in 2008. It appears that abortion accounts for roughly one-third of the aggregate income generated by PPFA-affiliated clinics. According to press reports, PPFA has recently mandated that all of its regional affiliates must provide abortions by the end of 2013,” the National Right to Life Committee said in a letter to House members. “Please call the office of your U.S. House member and urge him or her to support the Pence Amendment and all other pro-life amendments to H.R. 1”
But Planned Parenthood is alerting its members to call Congress and urge strong opposition to the Pence amendment.
“This is it. Right now, Congress is considering a provision to strip all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers,” Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards complains. “This is truly an emergency for Planned Parenthood and women’s health. Call now and tell [your member] to vote no.”
“Anti-choice leaders in the House are forcing a vote that would deny Planned Parenthood health centers every dime of federal funding,” the action alert states. “We need you to act now by calling your representative.”
Since February 1, 2011, Live Action has released footage from New Jersey, Virginia, and New York Planned Parenthood clinics, all of which have been met by an ever-changing defense from Planned Parenthood.
The sting operations revealed Planned Parenthood center staffers were willing to provide assistance to alleged operators of a sex trafficking ring — ranging from helping them arrange abortions for the underage girls they said they were victimizing to showing them how to avoid scrutiny and skirt parental involvement laws. The videos covered Planned Parenthood centers in Richmond and also other centersin Roanoke, Charlottesville, and Falls Church. A District of Columbia Planned Parenthood also encouraged and assisted sexual traffickers, as evidenced in an undercover audio file.
Live Action also filmed Planned Parenthood staff helping sex traffickers in New Jersey — and the nurse who aided the alleged traffickers there has already been fired while the state health department is looking into the problems further.
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has already received the full, unedited footage of the Planned Parenthood expose’ videos and he told CBS 6 WVTR in Richmond that they are “shocking.”
Live Action has previously released more than a dozen hidden camera videos from ten states. This body of visual evidence shows several alarming patterns of illegal Planned Parenthood activities including cover-up of sexual abuse of minors, the skirting of parental consent laws, citing unscientific and fabricated medical information to manipulate women to have abortions, and Planned Parenthood’s willingness to accept donations earmarked to abort African-American babies.
