An Alaska pro-life group has issued an endorsement for Republican Senate nominee Joe Miller in his campaign against pro-abortion Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who is running a write-in bid.

“In the end, it comes down to the dignity of human beings – each created in God’s image,” says Alaska Family Action board chairman Dave Bronson said in an email to LifeNews.com.

“Senate candidates Joe Miller, Lisa Murkowski and Scott McAdams have provided clear direction as to how they would lead on the defining moral issue of
our day – the sanctity of human life,” he added.

The organization feels so strongly about the differences between Miller and Murkowski on abortion that this is the first time AFA has issued an endorsement for any candidate for any office.

Bronson said Miller told the group he supports overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that has resulted in more than 52 million abortions. Murkowski supports the high court’s ruling.

Miller also answered the AFA questionnaire about abortion funding and funding for pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and he told the organization he would “support a ban on any federal funding of groups that perform or promote abortions, such as Planned Parenthood” and support reversing President Barack Obama’s decision to overturn the Mexico City Policy that prohibited funding groups that promote and perform abortions overseas.

On both issues, Murkowkski would not make such pro-life commitments.
The two candidates also differed on the subject of forcing taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research — with Miller saying no and Murkowski opposing a ban on taxpayer funding.

“Because of pro-abortion positions such as these, Lisa Murkowski has earned the endorsement of The Wish List, an organization that works exclusively to elect pro-abortion Republican women to office,” Bronson noted.

“Contrary to some misleading reports in the media, there is nothing that is ‘complex’ or confusing about Lisa Markdowns’ position on abortion.  She supports legal abortion,” he continued. “Even before she was appointed to the U.S. Senate, Lisa Murkowski supported taxpayer funding of abortions as a member of the Alaska Legislature.”

“Alaska Family Action, the legislative advocacy arm of Alaska Family Council, believes Joe Miller will be an eloquent defender of life in the most powerful legislative body in the world.  He will be a strong voice for those who have no voice,” Bronson added.

Although McAdams refused to respond to AFA’s candidate survey, he said in an Anchorage Daily News questionnaire that he was most definitely “pro-choice” and that he was “proud to have the endorsement of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and support of the Alaska Women’s Political Caucus.”

Bronson concluded, “With current U.S. Senator Mark Begich receiving a 100% rating from the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), the last thing Alaska needs is another leader unwilling to take a stand for the most vulnerable among us.”
