The Susan B. Anthony List has dubbed 2010 “The Year of the Pro-Life Woman.”
We’ve been looking forward to this moment in history since our founding in 1992 – often called the “Year of the Woman.” Those women didn’t speak for us.
This year in dozens of races around the country – congressional, gubernatorial, state races – we have strong pro-life women candidates who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in, one of those planks being Life.
The most in history, there are four SBA List Candidate Fund endorsed women running for United Stated Senate. As we all know, the messenger matters. However unfair it may be, society tells us that women should have more of a say about abortion.
But with no pro-life women currently in the Senate, pro-abortion women Senators like Barbara Boxer go unchallenged telling our pro-life men they can’t speak for women. Most male pro-life Senators agree that a woman’s voice on the floor of the Senate would be a welcome beacon of light for the Life issue, standing up for the truth that abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women.
Overjoyed by the prospect of four senatorial candidates, the SBA List has endorsed:
- Carly Fiorina (R) of California, running against the vitriolic Barbara Boxer (D).
- Kelly Ayotte (R) of New Hampshire, running against Paul Hodes (D), formerly Judd Gregg’s (R) seat.
- Sharron Angle (R) of Nevada, running against the infamous Senate majority leader and self-proclaimed-“pro-life” Harry Reid (D).
- Christine O’Donnell (R) of Delaware, running against Chris Coons (D), formerly Joe Biden’s (D) seat.
With anticipation, we await the outcome of November 2nd. And as we do, we recognize the political shift taking shape as more women self-identify as pro-life. This is an exciting time for the pro-life movement and, please God, will prove most effective in defending and protecting Life in the coming years.
