Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Television stations in the nation’s capital must, by law, allow the television commercials District of Columbia congressional candidate Missy Smith is running to air. But the Internet is another story and the popular video sharing web site YouTube has pulled them because they contain images of aborted babies.

YouTube is no stranger to removing pro-life videos, and has cut out others featuring graphic images and those pertaining to undercover investigations of Planned Parenthood.

"True to form, YouTube has censored the truth, removing one of Missy’s ads, the other to surely soon follow," pro-life nurse Jill Stanek noted on her blog today.

YouTube posted a message on the page previously containing the Smith advertisement, saying the video "has been disabled for violation of the YouTube Community Guidelines."

The notice warns the user who posted the video that a strike against the account has been posted that will be removed in six months. Additional strikes could result in disabling the YouTube account altogether.

Stanek says the ads began airing today and points out how they are sorely needed because of the high abortion rates in the nation’s capital.

"Missy is focusing her ad buy on programming that reaches young people," she says. "We have a rare two-week window of opportunity to get the truth out about abortion in a geographical location in desperate need of learning the truth."

"According to Guttmacher, Washington, DC has the highest rate of abortion in the entire US. While the national average is 19.4 abortions per every 1,000 women, in DC the rate is a tragic 54.2," Stanek notes.

Smith, candidate for Congress against Eleanor Holmes Norton, has created two pro-life campaign ads. The ads contain graphic images of healthy unborn babies and babies killed by abortion.

The ads present a unique opportunity to show the graphic images of babies killed by abortion on national media, she said. In opposition to the usual media "blackout" regarding the babies, the laws regulating campaign ads allow for the candidate to show the graphic images.

"As Father Frank Pavone has said, ‘America will not reject abortion until America sees abortion,’" she told LifeNews.com. "We know these ads will save babies and get the dialogue started that is so needed. No one can see these ads and not realize that abortion is murder."
