Polls Show Close Senate Race in Nevada, Pro-Life Rubio Leading in Florida

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Two of the marquee Senate matchups for November that pit pro-life versus pro-abortion candidates were the subject of new polls released today. Rasmussen Reports indicates pro-life Senate candidate Marco Rubio leads in Florida while pro-life Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle is in a close race.
Angle and pro-abortion Democratic leader Harry Reid are in a dead heat with Reid getting 48 percent and Angle 47 percent of the vote.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters has four percent liking another candidate and one percent undecided. The close race comes even though Reid owns the airwaves in Nevada and is flooding them with advertisements attacking Angle on a multitude of issues.
Two weeks ago, the two candidates were tied at 48% apiece and both candidates are beginning to lock up their voters. Ninety-three percent of Reids supporters say they are certain how they will vote in November while 88 percent of Angle voters say the same thing.
Meanwhile, Rubio, the pro-life candidate in Florida, continues to hold an 11-point lead over pro-abortion independent candidate Charlie Crist in Floridas race for the U.S. Senate.
Rasmussen shows Rubio with 41% support, while Crist, the states current governor, picks up 30% of the vote and pro-abortion Democrat Kendrick Meek comes in third with 21%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided.
"Since mid-April, support for Rubio, a former state House speaker, has ranged from 34% to 41%. Support for Crist has run from 30% to 38% over the same period. Meek, a U.S. congressman from south Florida, has been stuck in third place with 15% to 23% of the vote," Rasmussen said.
Crist, who upset pro-life advocates by vetoing a bill that would have helped women by allowing them to see an ultrasound of their unborn baby before an abortion, will not enjoy support from the pro-life movement in the race. https://www.lifenews.com/state5183.html
Rubio criticized Crist for the veto of the pro-life bill, saying Once again, Charlie Crist has put politics ahead of principled policy-making. Not only would this commonsense measure have provided women with vital information as they make a critical decision, but now Governor Crists veto also clears the way for taxpayer funding of abortion in Florida." https://www.lifenews.com/state5185.html
"This veto will now make it harder for Florida to fight Obamacare, since the bill would have enabled our state to opt out of the abortion coverage mandate in the federal health care law," he added.
Even those who agree with the outcome of the Governors decision should be alarmed that an issue as serious and deserving of sober deliberation as this one was treated in such a calculating, political manner. Florida deserves a U.S. senator who will think issues through and let principles, not the politics of the moment, guide their decisions. Not surprisingly, his latest decision is only the latest in a long litany of examples in which Charlie Crist has broken his word to Floridians," Rubio said.
Crist has also come under fire for removing the section of his web site supposedly touting his pro-life credentials. https://www.lifenews.com/state5164.html
Looking at Nevada, Angle picked up endorsements from National Right to Life and the Susan B. Anthony List pro-life groups after she won the Republican primary and Nevada Right to Life backed her as well. https://www.lifenews.com/state5173.html
The State of Nevada is fortunate to have a champion of the unborn running for United States Senate against Harry Reid, Jeremy McNeil, director of its PAC, told LifeNews.com. While a state legislator, Sharron Angle consistently voted according to her pro-life convictions and sponsored significant pro-life legislation.
Sharron Angle and Harry Reid stand in stark contrast on the issue of abortion. While Harry Reid asserts he is pro-life, his actions belie his words, McNeil said. Reid has helped spearhead the Obama Administrations radically pro-abortion agenda, including blocking an amendment to prevent the federal government from subsidizing health plans that cover abortion on demand and voting to fund the U.N. Population Fund, which has significant ties to government-coerced abortions in China.
