Annapolis, MD (LifeNews.com) — Two pro-life groups have issued endorsements for Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Murphy Concerned Women for America and Maryland Right to Life. Both backed the candidate while MRTL also issued endorsements for candidates for the state legislature.

"Brian Murphy is exactly the kind of candidate that Maryland needs in its next Governor," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, a national pro-life women’s group.

"Brian is committed to upholding traditional American family values espoused by CWA, including standing up for the sanctity of the unborn and all human life," Nance told LifeNews.com in a statement. "Brian will help take Maryland in a new direction and this is why we urge all voters to choose Brian as their Republican nominee this coming Tuesday, September 14th."

In response to the endorsement, Murphy issued a statement saying, "I am honored to have the support of CWA. Fiscal responsibility and American family values are the cornerstones of the United States, and CWA represents the very best of our shared heritage."

The Maryland gubernatorial race has mostly focused on the potential general election matchup between Gov. Martin O’Malley and former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr, who supports some pro-life limits on abortion but is not considered pro-life.

Murphy is a successful Maryland businessman and the founder of the Plimhimmon Group, an investment company.

He has also received endorsements from other pro-life groups and leaders, including Governor Sarah Palin, Gary Bauer’s Campaign for Working Families PAC, Family Research Council Action PAC, and the Maryland Republican Assembly.

Maryland Right to Life has also endorsed a slew of candidates for the state legislature and is urging pro-life Maryland residents to vote pro-life this November.

"We urge all pro-life voters to unite behind the candidates that are endorsed by the Maryland Right to Life PACs, so that we can make a difference in Maryland by electing public officials who will protect innocent human life at every stage of development," the group said.

It also urged pro-life voters to educate candidates on pro-life issues.

"Voters are in a great position to educate candidates and let them know the issues that are important to them," MDRTL said.
