Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) — Missouri Right to Life, the statewide pro-life organization, has released its congressional and state office endorsements for the November 2 general election. The group is backing Senate candidate Roy Blunt, who a new Rasmussen poll shows leading pro-abortion candidate Robin Carnahan.

In Congressional races, the pro-life organization endorses Todd Akin, Ed Martin, Jacob Turk, Sam Graves, Billy Long, JoAnn Emerson, Blaine Luetkemeyer and Tom Schweich.

The Right to Life group is also behind State Auditor candidate Tom Schweich and split its endorsement in the 4th Congressional district between incumbent Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton and Republican challenger Vicky Hartzler.

"It has never been more important for voters to know where both Federal and State candidates stand on the life issues," said MRL president Pam Fichter.

"We are in the midst of the most anti-life administration in our country’s history. This election represents a tremendous opportunity to return a pro-life majority to the U.S. Congress," she said.

Fichter also hopes pro-life voters will support pro-life candidates for the state legislature, which are detailed on its website.

"We must also support those candidates for the Missouri legislature that will continue to work for the protection of innocent human life. We urge our members and all pro-life citizens to support candidates who have earned the endorsement of Missouri Right to Life’s Political Action Committee," she said.

Meanwhile, a new poll released yesterday from Rasmussen Reports shows Blunt now holds a 10-point lead over Democrat Robin Carnahan in Missouri’s race for the U.S. Senate.

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of likely voters shows Blunt picking up 53% of the vote, with leaners included. Carnahan, Missouri’s secretary of state, draws support from 43%. Two percent (2%) prefer another candidate, and another two percent (2%) are undecided.

Just over two weeks ago, Blunt held a 54% to 41% over Carnahan when leaners were part of the totals.

Results before leaners are added find Blunt with a 51% to 40% edge over Carnahan, showing no change over the past two weeks. Seventy-one percent (71%) of Blunt’s supporters are already certain of their vote this November, along with 72% of those who back Carnahan.

Blunt now earns 91% of the vote from Missouri Republicans, while 85% of the state’s Democrats support Carnahan. Blunt holds a two-to-one lead among voters not affiliated with either major political party.

Blunt and Carnahan are running for the seat being vacated by retiring GOP Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond.
