Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The first Pro-Life Freedom Ride in Alabama and Georgia saw hundreds of pro-life advocates recreate the historic rights used by the civil rights movement — this time to press for civil rights for unborn children. The second ride takes place this September and will focus on the elections and helping women after abortion.
The event, sponsored by Priests for Life along with black pro-life leader Alveda King, was inaugurated last month with a ride from Birmingham to Atlanta.
The second phase begins next month with a nine-week period of prayer and action starting on September 1 and concluding on Election Day.
Participants and supporters will join a national webcast on September 7 to discuss how people can participate in their own communities in the activities of these weeks.
The event will also include the National Voter Registration Sunday projects on September 12, where pro-life advocates are urged to get church members and pro-life people registered to vote.
Then, the pro-life freedom riders will board buses and tag along in automobiles as they drive from Knoxville, Tennessee to Chattanooga.
Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life says the event will conclude with a "national call to post-abortion healing and testimony" symbolized by the event in Chattanooga on Oct. 16 which will be held at the National Memorial for the Unborn.
"At this site, mothers and fathers from around the world who have lost children to abortion memorialize those children with special plaques posted on the walls," he said. "At the October 16 event, Pro-life Freedom Riders will express their solidarity with all who have lost children to abortion. Some will give their testimonies at that event."
The event sees the sponsors hook up with the affiliated Silent No More Awareness Campaign, which helps women who regret their abortions speak out to friends, family and their communities.
During the month of October, the event will urge pro-life advocates to participate in get out the vote activities and the sponsors will offer training and support for those pro-life election efforts.
