Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) — Just one week after Missouri voters made it abundantly clear they strongly oppose the pro-abortion health care bill President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies pushed through Congress, a new poll shows pro-life Senate candidate Roy Blunt leading pro-abortion Robin Carnahan.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in Missouri shows Blunt with 50% support, while Carnahan earns 43% of the vote.
That’s an uptick of one percent for Blunt following both candidates clinching their primary election nods last week. Two weeks ago, Blunt posted a 49% to 43% lead over Carnahan, Missouris current secretary of state.
Blunt has run slightly ahead of Carnahan in surveys all year, with support ranging from 45% to 50%. She, in turn, has picked up 41% to 45% of the vote in those same surveys.
In the new poll, three percent prefer some other candidate and four percent remain undecided. Both candidates earn high levels of support from voters in their own party. Voters not affiliated with either of the major parties favor Blunt by nearly 20 points.
The pro-abortion health care bill President Barack Obama signed received a major blow from voters in Missouri. They voted overwhelmingly to reject a federal mandate to purchase health insurance — important because some of the plans in the program will pay for abortions with federal funds.
Proposition C passed by almost a 3-1 ratio as Show Me State residents voted to exempt Missouri from the insurance mandate in the new health care law.
In July, Blunt picked up the endorsement from the Susan B. Anthony List.
SBA List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser said of the endorsement: The Senate is in great need of the pro-life statesmanship Roy Blunt has already proven time and again to possess."
"His commitment to rescind taxpayer funding of abortion in the federal health care legislation and in every aspect of federal spending is urgently needed in the coming Congress," she added.
Ironically, Roy Blunt represents womens real views and needs on the issue of abortion far better than does his female opponent, Dannenfelser said of the pro-abortion EMILYs List-endorsed candidate and vocal abortion supporter Carnahan.
The Missouri Right to Life political action committee announced in June its support for Blunt and noted Carnahan is pro-abortion.
As a seven-term Congressman, Rep. Blunt has been a consistent voice for life with a 100% pro-life voting record.
Missouri Right to Life greatly appreciates Roy Blunt’s commitment to the sanctity of human life, the group told LifeNews.com in making the endorsement announcement.
"Missouri Right to Life PAC urges Missourians who respect life to strongly support Roy Blunt’s campaign," Pam Fichter, the president of Missouri Right to Life, said.
