Okahoma City, OK ( — Another pro-life woman is posed to win a major election this November in what is quickly becoming a year in which pro-life women candidates are poised to win new seats in Congress and across the country.

U.S. Representative Mary Fallin, yesterday, surged to victory over her primary opponent in the race for the Republican bid for governor in Oklahoma.

That sets her up for a campaign against Democratic candidate Jari Askins in the race to replace Governor Brad Henry, who has vetoed some pro-life legislation.

“This latest win for an authentic, pro-life woman candidate continues the momentum that is making 2010 ‘the year of the pro-life woman,’” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund. “In Congress, Rep. Fallin has been a vocal advocate for the unborn and their mothers."

“With Mary Fallin in office, Oklahoma will have the opportunity to sign into law much of the pro-life legislation now being vetoed under current Gov. Brad Henry,” said Dannenfelser.

During her two terms in office, Fallin co-sponsored the Positive Alternatives Act and Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. She has received awards from the Family Research Council and other groups for her legislative work.

Referencing these accomplishments, Dannenfelser said, “Mary Fallin’s tireless efforts are a model for all pro-life women candidates this election cycle. A new women’s movement which affirms its original pro-life roots is making its way across the country, and Rep. Fallin is one of its brightest stars.”

If elected, Fallin will become the first woman Governor of Oklahoma.

Some of the other pro-life win in prominent races include Carly Fiorina, who is taking on Barbara Boxer in California’s Senate race. Sharron Angle is battling against Harry Reid, the leader of the Democrats in the Senate.

Nikki Haley is a candidate for governor in the general election in South Carolina, and Rita Meyer is a pro-life candidate for governor in the Wyoming primary slated for August.

SBA is backing congressional candidates Anne Marie Buerkle in New York, Renee Ellmers in North Carolina, Kristi Noem in South Dakota, Star Parker in California, Jaime Herrera in Washington and Diane Black in Tennessee.

The group is also supporting a couple dozen other pro-life women seeking congressional or statewide offices.
