Phoenix, AZ (LifeNews.com) — The Arizona Right to Life Political Action Committee has issued endorsements for the upcoming primary election and it is backing Governor Jan Brewer, who delighted pro-life advocate by signing several pro-life bills. The pro-life organization is also backing a large number of candidate in Congressional races.

"AZRTL PAC endorses Jan Brewer because of her strong support of the pro-life cause over her 25 year political career," the group emailed LifeNews.com.

"In just her first term as governor since being appointed in January of 2009, Governor Brewer signed eight pro-life bills into law that will help protect innocent human life in Arizona. Among those bills signed into law include a ban of partial-birth abortions in Arizona and a mandatory 24-hour waiting period before an abortion can be performed," the pro-life group’s PAC chairman Walt Opaska said.

"Unlike her immediate predecessor, Governor Brewer has shown she truly cares about women and children by recognizing the importance of protecting all innocent life, including the unborn," Opaska said.

Other pro-life bills signed by Governor Brewer include a ban on non-doctors performing surgical abortions, a bill that opts Arizona out of providing abortion coverage in any insurance exchanges offered under the new federal health care law and a prohibition on Arizona taxpayer dollars from being used to fund insurance coverage for elective abortions for government employees.

Arizona Right to Life is strongly supporting pro-life incumbent Reps. Trent Franks in the second congressional district and Jeff Flake in the sixth.

In the first congressional district, AZRTL is standing behind Bradley Beauchamp, Rusty Bowers, Paul Gosar, and Sydney Hay.

"All of these candidates hold a strong pro-life position. After examining all of the candidates in this race, AZRTL PAC believes any of the endorsed candidates appear to be highly electable against their general election pro-abortion opponent, Ann Kirkpatrick," the group said.

In the third, AZRTL is backing Jim Waring, Pamela Gorman and Sam Crump.

It supports Jose Penalosa in the fourth, saying, "While he has never held public office, he has been an attorney working in Central Phoenix for almost twenty years. He has the credentials and the passion to challenge Ed Pastor, the current pro-abortion Democrat Congressman."

David Schweikert gets the Right to Life backing in the fifth district: "We believe Mr. Schweikert would be the most likely person to defeat pro-abortion Harry Mitchell in the general election."

AZRTL PAC endorses Ruth McClung in the Republican Primary for the seventh district, and Jonathan Paton in the Republican Primary for the 8th.
