Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle, who is taking on pro-abortion Sen. Harry Reid, the top Democrat in the chamber, showed her pro-life views in a new radio interview. She said she opposes abortion cases of rape or incest and said God has a plan for women and children who have been victimized.

In an interview with a local radio show, Angle said, "I’m pro responsible choice. There is choice to abstain and a choice to do contraception. There are all kind of good choices."

Asked if there is any reason at all for abortion, she added, "Not in my book."

"So, in other words, rape and incest would not be something?" Angle was asked.

"You know, I’m a Christian and I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives and that he can intercede in all kinds of situations and we need to have a little faith in many things," she responded.

The Nevada Democratic Party and others have strongly criticized Angle for her comments, but women who say they were born as the result of a rape have said over the years that they are glad they did not become victims of abortion.

Julie Makimaa, who works diligently against the perception that abortion is acceptable or even necessary in cases of sexual assault, proclaims, “It doesn’t matter how I began. What matters is who I will become.”

And Rebecca Wasser-Kiessling, who was conceived in a rape, is rightfully proud of her mother’s courage and generosity and wisely reminds us of a fundamental truth that transcends biological paternity: “I believe that God rewarded my birth mother for the suffering she endured, and that I am a gift to her. The serial rapist is not my creator; God is.”

Meanwhile, Amy Sobie of the Elliot Institute reports that its research shows "most women who become pregnant through sexual assault don’t want abortion, and say abortion only compounds their trauma."

"For example, it is commonly assumed that rape victims who become pregnant would naturally want abortions. But in the only major study of pregnant rape victims ever done prior to this book, Dr. Sandra Mahkorn found that 75 to 85 percent did not have abortions. This figure is remarkably similar to the 73 percent birth rate found in our sample of 164 pregnant rape victims. This one finding alone should cause people to pause and reflect on the presumption that abortion is wanted or even best for sexual assault victims," she explained.

A poll earlier this month shows Angle has scooted out to a double digit lead over pro-abortion Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid following her come-from-behind victory in the Republican primary.

Angle received 39 percent compared with 28 percent for former Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden and businessman Danny Tarkanian receiving 23 percent.

Now, a new Rasmussen Reports poll has her ahead of Reid, the top Democrat in the Senate, by 11 percent.

Angle picked up endorsements from National Right to Life and the Susan B. Anthony List pro-life groups and Nevada Right to Life backed her as well.

“The State of Nevada is fortunate to have a champion of the unborn running for United States Senate against Harry Reid,” Jeremy McNeil, director of its PAC, told LifeNews.com. “While a state legislator, Sharron Angle consistently voted according to her pro-life convictions and sponsored significant pro-life legislation.”
