Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) — A doctor at the University of Wisconsin who played a prominent role in developing controversial plans for a late-term abortion facility at the Madison Surgery Center, is leaving. UW abortion practitioner Caryn Dutton is leaving to take a position in Boston at Harvard University.

Emails obtained through an open records request, filed by the Alliance Defense Fund on behalf of Pro-Life Wisconsin, reveal that University of Wisconsin is leaving.

The documents also show how the negative press surrounding the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics’ involvement in abortion was affecting its public image.

Virginia Zignego, communications director for Pro-Life Wisconsin and a UW graduate, tells LifeNews.com the emails demonstrate that UW purposely blurred their failed attempt to provide late-term abortions at the Madison Surgery Center.

“UW no longer upholds its famous dictum, ‘The University of Wisconsin should ever encourage that continual and fearless sifting and winnowing by which the truth alone can be found,’” Zignego said. “UW instead aims to obfuscate, slice and dice the truth with the blood of the unborn.”

In a May 5 email, Ron Gilmore, vice president for public affairs for UW Health wrote, “The whole topic of second trimester abortions has been a UW Health issue – and unfortunately the media has tied the whole issue to UW Hospital. The stories were very negative to us in the press.”

Pro-Life Wisconsin says the emails show the work of pro-life advocates to expose the late-term abortion center plan spurred UW to admit abandoning late-term abortion plans at the Madison Surgery Center.

The group says Dutton’s leaving to take another position is evidence those plans are unraveling.

Dutton, who did abortions at Planned Parenthood, will, according to an AP report, will join the faculty at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston later this summer.

UW Health spokeswoman Lisa Brunette clams Dutton’s departure won’t alter the plans for the abortion center but will change who does the abortions.
