Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Newly-minted Republican Senate nominee Sharron Angle has scooted out to a double digit lead over pro-abortion Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid following her come-from-behind victory in Tuesday’s primary election. Angle has already picked up the endorsement of three pro-life groups.

Angle received 39 percent compared with 28 percent for former Republican Party Chairwoman Sue Lowden and businessman Danny Tarkanian receiving 23 percent.

Now, a new Rasmussen Reports poll has her ahead of Reid, the top Democrat in the Senate, by 11 percent.

Its survey of likely voters on Wednesday night finds Angle earning 50% support while Reid picks up 39% of the vote. Five percent support another candidate and six percent are undecided.

A month ago, Angle led Reid 48% to 40% but ran poorest against the incumbent of the three GOP primary hopefuls, though that will likely change now that she has the nomination and shown voters she can win.

Although Reid will likely make the race about Angle’s pro-life and conservative views, he has never risen above the low 40s as voters are upset Reid pushed through the pro-abortion, government-run health care bill.

Rasmussen indicates the health care bill could play a role in Reid’s political demise.

"In line with voter sentiments nationally, 58% of Nevada voters favor repeal of the recently-passed national health care bill while 41% oppose repeal. This includes 47% who Strongly Favor repeal and 29% who Strongly Oppose it," pollster Scott Rasmussen noted.

Angle picked up endorsements from National Right to Life and the Susan B. Anthony List pro-life groups yesterday and, today, Nevada Right to Life backed her as well.

“The State of Nevada is fortunate to have a champion of the unborn running for United States Senate against Harry Reid,” Jeremy McNeil, director of its PAC, told LifeNews.com. “While a state legislator, Sharron Angle consistently voted according to her pro-life convictions and sponsored significant pro-life legislation.”

“Sharron Angle and Harry Reid stand in stark contrast on the issue of abortion. While Harry Reid asserts he is pro-life, his actions belie his words,” McNeil said. “Reid has helped spearhead the Obama Administration’s radically pro-abortion agenda, including blocking an amendment to prevent the federal government from subsidizing health plans that cover abortion on demand and voting to fund the U.N. Population Fund, which has significant ties to government-coerced abortions in China.”

Despite their hotly-contested primary, Republicans already appear to be solidifying behind Angle who now earns 88% support among voters in her party. Reid draws 68% support from Democrats. Voters not affiliated with either party prefer Angle by 10 points.

Twenty-six percent of voters in Nevada have a Very Favorable opinion of Reid, who has represented the state in the U.S. Senate since 1987. Forty-five percent view him Very Unfavorably.

Angle, a teacher by profession who now serves in the state legislature, is viewed Very Favorably by 20% and Very Unfavorably by 23%.
