Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — A congressional hearing on Tuesday saw a panel of experts unveil information showing Chinese women are victimized by forced abortions every 2.4 seconds. Rep. Chris Smith, the pro-life leader in the House, chaired the panel discussion dubbed "No Choice Allowed."

The experts said as many as 35,000 abortions are done daily on women who don’t want one but must be subjected to one because of the strict one-child policy.

Those numbers don’t begin to include the men and women who are victims of forced sterilizations, who are imprisoned or sentenced to home detention, lose their jobs or face stiff fines, and the number of families who face similar abuses from the Chinese government.

Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Borders, told the hearing, "Over 400 million children are not living in China because of the one-child policy. That’s more than the population of the United States."

"Many people in America know about the one-child policy but don’t know it leads to forced abortions," she added, according to a Washington Times report, and talked about how women are forcibly taken to hospitals and strapped to beds where they are forced to endure an abortion of their child.

The panelists all know many women who have been victimized and Littlejohn saw so many she decided to provide them legal support after formerly serving as an attorney for Chinese refugees seeking asylum in the United States.

"It just broke my heart, so I left the law to devote my time fully to this issue," she said, according to the Times.

A press statement LifeNews.com received before the event provided more details about what is happening in China.

"China’s response to a growing population was to enact a rash policy with far-reaching reproductive restrictions. The unintended effects and violent implementation of the one-child per couple policy have permeated Chinese society," it said.

Under the policy more than 400 million babies have been "prevented" in China in the last 30 years — most of them girls. Four hundred "million tiny futures brutally ended," they said, adding that they are "400 million voices who never had the chance to laugh with joy."

Chai Ling, co-founder of Jenzabar Foundation and All Girls Allowed; Captain Xiong Yan, U.S. Army Chaplain; Bob Fu, President of ChinaAid also attended the hearing.
