Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Bristol Palin, who shares some of the media spotlight with her famous mother, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, continues to promote the abstinence message. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine, she encouraged teenagers to consider the lifestyle of a teen mother before having sex.

She admitted "it was kind of humiliating" to be known nationwide as a pregnant teenager mother.

"[I was thinking], ‘Great, I’m 17 years old, I’m 40 pounds overweight with a big belly on me, all my friends are at school watching this on the news,’" she told the magazine. "This kind of sucks."

Bristol is 19-years-old and is raising 17-month-old Tripp at the same time her mother is raising a Down syndrome baby, Trigg, who is several months older.

Bristol tells the magazine her life is not exactly how she envisioned it.

"I thought I would be somewhere warm at college with my friends, but that was definitely not possible with having Tripp," she says.

But she added, "I love my baby more than anything. He’s like a Gerber baby. He’s the cutest baby in the whole world…I just want Tripp to be happy and healthy."

The daughter of the prominent pro-life advocate works as a medical assistant and ambassador to the Candie’s Foundation to support her and her son.

"I’m on my own. I’m really proud of it. I’m a hard worker," she explains. "I don’t have time for friends or anything like that. It’s just like, Right, crap, there is a hockey game tonight that I want to go to but I can’t. Or, I do have to go to work today, because I’ve got bills to pay."

"I’m in no rush. One day I’ll find a nice guy," she says of not having time to date.

Harper’s Bazaar also interviewed Sarah Palin, who said she’s "very proud of her [daughter] for taking responsibility."

"It’s not an easy road, but it’s the right road," Sarah says. "Decisions were made, and we can’t unwind those decisions. Consequences are being dealt with. I’m sincerely proud of her."

Bristol also closed by saying her parents did not know she was sexually active.
