Columbus, OH (LifeNews.com) — Ohio Right to Life issues its 2010 general election endorsements today with a slate of pro-life candidates led by Bob Portman and John Kasich. The endorsements for Ohio’s federal and state candidates were released today and the group will announce endorsements for state legislature later.

Mike Gonidakis, on behalf of the Ohio Right to Life PAC, told LifeNews.com that Ohio voters will likely send pro-abortion members of Congress a resounding wake-up call this November.

"Based upon the failed leadership in Congress and the collective abandonment of the will of the people relating to the pro-abortion federal health care vote, Ohio Right to Life enthusiastically and proudly endorses a strong pro-life congressional slate," he said.

He added, "Ohioans are united regarding the belief that our Congress needs a wake-up call and this November we will deliver a resounding message with the election of new members to Congress to include: Rob Portman, Steve Chabot, Jim Renacci, and Tom Ganley."

The pro-abortion health care bill President Barack Obama signed into law, with the help of most of the Democrats in the House and Senate — and over the objections of all Republicans — played a significant role in the endorsements, the Right to Life leader said.

"Pro-life Ohioans will also return to Congress our incumbents who stood with a vast majority of Ohioans and opposed the federal health care legislation, the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade. Those who voted for this ill conceived legislation will know in November the consequences of their votes and for turning their back on their constituents," said Gonidakis.

Turning his attention locally, Gonidakis said Ohio also faces a crucial test as it elects statewide candidates who will sit on the powerful apportionment board, which every decade determines legislative districts.

Marshal Pitchford, Chairman of the Ohio Right to Life Board of Trustees, added, "The Ohio Right to Life PAC is committed to electing Jon Husted, John Kasich and Dave Yost. Beyond a doubt, each of these pro-life candidates has worked tirelessly to not only preserve a culture of life in Ohio but are clearly the best candidates to lead Ohio."

"Regrettably, the Democrat Party bosses once again failed to support any pro-life statewide candidates despite the fact that credible candidates were prepared to run for higher office," he said. "This even included forcing a qualified pro-life candidate out of an apportionment board race."

Ohio Right to Life said the endorsed candidates received the support of the Ohio Right to Life PAC because they clearly represent the pro-life movement within Ohio and because they have displayed their commitment to preserving life.

The candidates endorsed by Ohio Right to Life PAC are a diverse group of men and women including Democrats and Republicans.

"These outstanding candidates received the Ohio Right to Life PAC endorsement not based on party affiliation or polling numbers. Simply put, these candidates clearly represent Ohio’s Pro-Life movement in the best possible way, shape and form and the PAC is proud to endorse them," Gonidakis said.
