Missouri Right to Life Urges Further Passage of Pre-Abortion Ultrasound Bill

Jefferson City, MO(LifeNews.com) — Encouraged by the passage last week of a bill that would provide women the ability to see an ultrasound of their unborn child before an abortion is done, Missouri Right to Life is asking legislators to move it further ahead.
The measure, less broad than a House-approved version, also gives women considering abortions 24 hours to reflect on the ultrasound and information they would receive on fetal development.
"On Thursday, April 15, the senate perfected SS SCS SB 793, a bill that contains some excellent pro-life provisions," the group said in the memo to legislators that it sent LifeNews.com.
"In addition to being offered an ultrasound and information on her unborn childs development 24 hours before an abortion, a mother receives information about the possibility of pain to her unborn child, the fathers liability for child support, alternatives to abortion and additional information to help her make a more fully informed choice," the memo reads.
"This legislation also includes language that allows Missouri to opt out of abortion coverage in federal health insurance exchanges," it explained.
The Missouri pro-life group said that, although "the legislation alters the existing requirement for a treating physician to meet with the woman to discuss the medical facts of a drug-induced or surgical abortion 24 hours before an abortion, we believe the senate sub moves Missouri closer to making sure women receive critical information that will help them choose life for their unborn child."
"Therefore, Missouri Right to Life supports the Senate Substitute. We urge the Senate to third read and pass SS SCS SB 793. We also urge the Missouri House to take up and pass SS SCS SB 793 without any changes and send it to the Governor," the group concluded.
The full House voted 113-37 in favor of the legislation on its side.
Its measure requires abortion businesses, orally and in writing, to provide women information 24 hours before an abortion on the development of the unborn child, and long-term medical and mental health problems women can expect from the abortion.
