Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — One of the nation’s longest-serving pro-life organizations unveiled today a $350,000 campaign to topple the pro-abortion Senate health care bill. Americans United for Life has been working overtime to defeat the legislation and its provisions funding and promotion abortions.

The online and grassroots campaign is aimed at convincing the Democrats who supported both the Stupak amendment and the House version of the bill to oppose the Senate measure because it doesn’t have the Stupak abortion limits.

The ad shows a picture of an infant held up with two hands and says: “When it comes to voting for health reform we know you have your hands full.”

“The health care bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives prevents taxpayer-funded abortion,” the ad says. “The U.S. Senate health care bill — on the other hand — does allow your tax dollars to pay for abortion. Those are stark differences with serious consequences.

With all Republicans planning to oppose the bill, the several dozen Democrats who are pro-life or more moderate than the pro-abortion leadership will be counted on to join them to defeat the legislation.

The campaign features a simple message: the Senate bill is pro-abortion and should be defeated as a result.

“We want to make it really simple for people. It’s a yes or no question. Is abortion in there or isn’t it? And abortion is in this bill and they have to vote no,” AUL president Charmaine Yoest told Politico today.

Starting tomorrow and running throughout the remainder of the week, Americans United for Life will feature newspaper advertisements is the districts of eight Democrats: Reps. Jerry Costello, Joe Donnelly, Baron Hill, Marcy Kaptur, Alan Mollohan, Earl Pomeroy, Nick Rahall and Charles Wilson.

LifeNews.com has received emails from AUL with a plea for additional funding to run the newspaper ads in the districts of other wavering members of Congress.

"President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, Senator Reid, and Planned Parenthood are within days of passing an unprecedented government takeover of your health care. And, if they succeed, your tax dollars will pay for abortion – whether you like it or not," the email says.

"Now, they are ramming this bill through the House of Representatives as quickly as possible. Within the week, Planned Parenthood may achieve the ‘Holy Grail’ of the pro-abortion movement: using tax dollars to pay for abortions," Yoest tells pro-life advocates. "Fortunately, the American people are opposed to taxpayer-funded abortion. And if the pro-life majority can get our message out, we can fight back against this pro-abortion momentum."

Today the House Budget Committee pushed the pro-abortion bill forward but votes in the Rules Committee and House floor remain.
