Appleton, WI (LifeNews.com) — Officials with the Planned Parenthood abortion business in Wisconsin are calling "false and inflammatory" a video showing its staffers lying to women about abortion. The video shows an abortion practitioner and staff making erroneous statements about fetal development and abortion’s risks.
As LifeNews.com reported last week, Live Action released the footage of an undercover video it took showing the false statements to two women considering an abortion.
A counselor on the tape says, "A fetus is what’s in the uterus right now. That is not a baby. A baby is what’s born at 40 weeks."
"Much safer than having a baby. You know women die having babies," the abortion practitioner continues.
Teri Huyck, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, told the Appleton Post-Crescent newspaper the video was an attack that was misleading.
"The fact is Planned Parenthood’s standard is to provide honest, medically accurate information," she said. "That is what the physician in this case did, in addition to accurately answering safety questions from a patient that had indicated she wanted to terminate her pregnancy."
Planned Parenthood also sent a statement to TMJ4-TV in Milwaukee refusing a request for an interview but saying, "Planned Parenthood’s standard is to provide honest, medically accurate information. That is what the physician in this case did."
Republican state Senator Glenn Grothman talked with the television station and said he is pushing for an investigation.
"I think the legislature should certainly look at this to see what we can do to make sure Planned Parenthood doesn’t mislead young girls like this in the future," he said.
Planned Parenthood has 28 centers in Wisconsin, with three that do abortions — including the Grand Chute-based facility shown in the video. The did 3,053 abortions in 2008.
Meanwhile, the newspaper indicates Live Action has contacted the state attorney general with a complaint about the Planned Parenthood employees.
Bill Cosh, a spokesman for the state Department of Justice, confirmed to the paper that it received the complaint on Friday that Planned Parenthood violated the state’s informed consent laws.
He said he referred Live Action to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s office, which would prosecute any such crimes locally.
Senator Grothman told the television station he is asking the county district attorney to open an investigation.
Also, Kay Herrling, fiscal manager for the county’s Health and Human Services Department, confirmed to the newspaper a LifeNews.com report showing the county has sent tens of thousands of dollars in taxpayer funds to the abortion center.
She said the county has given the Planned Parenthood abortion business money for the past 15-20 years with $10,872 in 2008 and $11,861 in 2009 going to family planning programs.
Two prominent physicians have stepped forward to view the video and said they information is false and misleading that Planned Parenthood presented.
