More Than 200,000 Pro-Life Advocates to Join 2009 LifeChain Against Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Young and old, black and white, women and men — more than 200,000 Americans of all backgrounds and religious faiths will unite with a common set of signs and a unified message this weekend. They will join their friends and family in neighborhoods large and small for the 2009 LifeChain.
The chains see dozens of people in every town standing on street corners on the first Sunday afternoon in October at 2:00 p.m. in every locale with similar signs opposing abortion.
"Well over 1450 cities and towns have now confirmed their LifeChains and National Life Chain Sunday 2009 is ‘reporting for duty,’" national organizer Royce Dunn emailed LifeNews.com today.
Dunn believes the event is one that has been blessed by God to reach millions of Americans with the consistent message that Abortion Kills Children and Abortion Hurts Women.
As he looked ahead to another year of the successful events, Dunn says he hopes participants can "transcend the abortion issue and value a broken spirit for the victims of grave injustice" and he hopes God will endow participants "with love for our rejected unborn neighbors."
Dunn calls the participants "earnest defenders of human life who seek God’s divine help to end the legalized killing of preborn fellow citizens" and who want to "protect from deadly predators the most helpless church family members–the preborn sons and daughters."
"While only a first step into pro-life activism, Life Chain is a serious step that tests our concern," he says, noting it is a peaceful and prayerful event.
Dunn says the success of the Life Chain in a given community "will rely heavily on pastoral leadership" with church ministers and lay leaders who actively decided to take on the abortion culture.
Standing along busy street corners, pro-life advocates will enjoy the thumbs up they receive from the majority of Americans who are pro-life and endure honking horns and obscene gestures from some who are not.
With some local chains having as many as one thousand people or more it is likely that more than 200,000 people will participate this weekend across Canada and the United States.
Other signs participants will hold include "Adoption – the Loving Option," "Jesus Forgives & Heals," "Lord, Forgive Us and Our Nation," "Life – the first Inalienable Right" and "Pray to End Abortion." LifeChain also provides signs in Spanish for Hispanic communities.
