Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The coalition of pro-life groups that launched the Stop the Abortion Mandate is back with a renewed campaign, Void The Abortion Mandate. The new campaign is a concerted effort to get pro-life advocates to contact Congress and urge removing the abortion funding from the health care bills.

The pro-life organizations launched a virtual rally "dedicated to educating President Obama and Congress as to how abortion will be government funded through the current healthcare legislation."

"And our timing couldn’t be better, last night the President actually claimed that abortion isn’t going to be funded through the new legislation," said Kristan Hawkins, the director of Students for Life of America and the coordinator of the campaign.

The new campaign features a chart that shows how the two main bills in the House and Senate include abortion funding.

It also includes a picture of a voided check and provides an opportunity for pro-life advocates to send it to Congress along with a plea to remove the abortion funding from the legislation.

"Make no mistake about it – abortion will be funded by the government through the new healthcare plan," Hawkins says. "Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby have been waiting for this day when abortion will be included as part of comprehensive healthcare reform."

Heartbeat International, a network of 1,100 pregnancy centers, is also a member of the coalition.

The group’s president, Peggy Hartshorn, told LifeNews.com, "If Congress does not explicitly exclude abortion from the health care reform legislation, then Americans will be forced to pay for the taking of innocent human life."

"Abortion is an assault on the dignity of the human person, abortion attacks the mother-child relationship, violating this precious bond and abortion does not improve anyone’s health," she said.

“In May, President Obama pledged to ‘reduce the number of women seeking abortions by reducing unintended pregnancies, and making adoption more available, and providing care and support for women who do carry their child to term,’" she continued. “I ask President Obama and Congress to acknowledge that government funding will increase the number of abortions.”

Susan B. Anthony List, Students for Life of America, National Black Pro-Life Union, 40 Days for Life, National Right to Life, Concerned Women for America, Americans United for Life, and Democrats for Life are also members of the coalition.
