Poll Shows Pro-Abortion Senate Leader Harry Reid Trails Republican Challengers

Carson City, NV (LifeNews.com) — A new poll shows that the pro-abortion leader of the Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate is trailing two potential Republican candidates who may challenge him next year. Harry Reid, who has become the number one election focus of a pro-life women’s group, is in serious jeopardy for 2010.
A new Mason-Dixon Polling & Research poll conducted last week shows Reid trails Republican Danny Tarkanian by double digits.
Tarkanian, the former University of Nevada-Las Vegas basketball star and son of the schools longtime basketball coach, runs ahead of Reid 47 percent to 38 percent, with 13 percent undecided.
Another potential Reid challenger, state GOP chair Sue Lowden, also leads Reid with 45 percent to 40 percent, and 15 percent undecided.
The poll also found that Reids favorable ratings are very low for a candidate seeking re-election as 37 percent view him favorably compared with 50 percent who view the four-term senator unfavorably. Reid had a 34-47 percent disapproval rating in July — showing he has made no improvement in his standing with the people of Nevada.
The polling data comes after an announcement from the Susan B. Anthony List that it is fund-raising to bring in donations to run a new ad in television stations in the state to target Reid.
The ad points out how Reid is no longer voting pro-life and how he is violating the pro-life position he still claims to adhere to by backing the pro-abortion health care bills in Congress.
"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he’s pro-life but he voted to use U.S. tax dollars to fund overseas abortions. He also voted to deny health care to unborn children of low income women," the ad explains.
"Now Harry Reid is pushing a massive government-run health care system requiring taxpayer funding for abortions. And he won’t allow doctors or nurses the right to object," the SBA ad continues. "Harry Reid says he’s pro-life, so call him and tell him this time to vote that way."
SBA is seeking just over $25,000 to start airing the Reid advertisement and the organization has matching donors who will help bring the commercial to television outlets across the state.
