Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — A new Planned Parenthood commercial responds to the pro-life television spot run by a leading pro-life organization. Despite its protests to the contrary, the new ad strangely omits any claims that the health care bills pending in Congress do not fund abortions, as pro-life groups note they do.

The new ad talks about promoting health care reform but hides the abortion businesses’ support for taxpayer-funding of abortion in flowery language about women’s health.

Although no pro-life groups oppose health care for women, viewers of the new Planned Parenthood ad wouldn’t know it.

As a female narrator talks about supposed attacks on women’s health, Planned Parenthood’s new commercial plays footage of an ad from the Family Research Council and features its logo on the screen.

"With all the screaming, shouting and scare tactics, it’s hard to know what’s true about health reform. The truth is that most Americans want reform to protect basic health care," the ad says.

"But some groups want new restrictions on women’s health care and to take away coverage women have now," the ad claims. "Planned Parenthood is working to protect our heart and for stable and secure coverage we can all afford. Join us."

In a post on its blog, the Family Research Council responds and notices the absence of any mention of the word abortion.

"The ad is remarkable for one thing – the number one pro-abortion organization in the US never mentions abortion once. What are they afraid of?" the pro-life group asks.

"Planned Parenthood, following President Obama’s lead, continues to deceive on whether abortion is covered in the bill. The thing is they know full well is it will be in the bill unless specifically stated otherwise, that is why they opposed every single attempt to make the bill abortion neutral," FRC says.

The ad is surprising given that it responds to the FRC commercial, the point of which was to warn Americans about the abortion funding in the health care bill.

"With abortion being in the bill, it opens huge taxpayer funded spigots for an industry already subsidized heavily by taxpayers," it concludes.
