Barack Obama Campaign Organization Misleads on Health Care Abortion Funding

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The Barack Obama campaign organization has released a new web site called "Setting the Record Straight" that presents crooked details when it comes to the health care legislation in Congress. Organizing for America, the renamed Obama campaign apparatus, also claims there are not rationing concerns in the bill.
"It feels like a new lie about health insurance reform crops up each day," OFA director Mitch Stewart says in the email for the president’s group.
"Government taking over all health care? Not true. Euthanasia for seniors? Couldn’t be more false. Rationing of care? Reform will stop rationing, not increase it," he claims.
"It’s time to set the record straight — and, more importantly, expose the special interests and partisan attack organizations behind the lies and misinformation," Stewart continues. "That’s why we created our new ‘Setting the Record Straight’ site."
The section of the new web site that goes after citizens groups questioning the health care bills contends there is absolutely no abortion funding in the legislation.
"In fact, none of the health care overhaul measures that have made it through the committee level in Congress say that abortion will be covered," the web site maintains.
That doesn’t square with the truth as committees in both the House and Senate repeatedly defeated amendments that would have stopped the inclusion of abortion coverage and funding in the health care measures.
The Obama site also says one bill "explicitly says that no public funds will be used to finance the procedure."
The National Right to Life Committee’s lobbyist, Douglas Johnson, was clearly beside himself in responding to the new web site.
"The bill that the White House is backing would authorize the government plan to cover abortion on demand — and Obama has promised Planned Parenthood that abortion will be included in the plan," he says.
Concerning the House bill and the misleading Capps amendment lawmakers adopted, Johnson says Obama is hiding behind a twisted definition of public funds to make the claim there is no taxpayer-funding of abortion.
"The White House seeks to conceal this fact by hiding behind a technical distinction between two different types of funds that would be collected by the government and paid out by the government, and pretending that premium funds collected and spent by the government are not ‘public’ funds," he said.
"The simple fact is that under Obama’s plan, no citizen would be allowed to participate in the government plan unless he or she was willing to pay extra to pay for elective abortion coverage — it would not be optional," Johnson concluded.
