Selma, AL (LifeNews.com) — Hundreds of pro-life advocates will recreate the Civil Rights march across the Pettus Bridge in Alabama along with family members of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. More than 70 pro-life organizations representing different faith traditions and the leadership of pro-life advocates in the region, are promoting the event.

Alabama Citizens for Life, along with Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., are the main organizers of the event, which takes place Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the famous bridge.

Cheryl Ciamarra, of Alabama Citizens for Life, talked with LifeNews.com about the march.

"This march is uniting pro-life groups across not just the state of Alabama, but the region and country as well to take a stand for the right to life of the child in the womb," she said.

"This Civil Right to Life March is an urgent call to restore the foundational principle of the Right to Life guaranteed Americans in the Declaration of Independence that has been lost," she added.

Part of the march’s purpose, Ciamarra says, is to take back the language and lexicon of the abortion debate.

"I am through with the term ‘unborn’ and ‘preborn’ isn’t specific enough," she says. "If President Obama uses the word ‘child’ in his speech to ‘Notre’ Dame referring to ‘those women who choose to carry their child to term’, referring to the baby in their mother’s womb , there is no reason why any person who believes in the sanctity of human life should ever utter the word ‘fetus’ again."

"If it is a child when carried to term , it is also a child whose life is ended by abortion," she added.

Ciamarra says the current economic problems in the United States can be traced back to a lack of civil rights for unborn children.

"American is in a spiraling economic slump specifically because we have ended the lives of 50 million of our children," she said. "Now 36 years later a second generation of the offspring of those children is missing from our population demographic causing imbalance in productivity, taxpayers and social security funding."

The event will feature nationally-known speakers, including Raimundo Rojas of National Right to Life and former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.
