Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — As they have in past years, pro-life advocates will again protest the National Education Association and its pro-abortion policies at its annual convention. This year’s event will be held July 2 at the San Diego Convention Center in southern California and corresponding state affiliate headquarters across the country.

The educational organization came under fire last year for endorsing pro-abortion presidential candidate Barack Obama and the union has upset pro-life advocates many times over the years by spending dues supporting pro-abortion candidates.

Most recently, the NEA received criticism from pro-life advocates when it hosted a forum featuring a late-term abortion practitioner.

Bob Pawson, the head of Pro-Life Educators and Students, has headed up the convention protests for several years.

He says the teachers, staff and other educators who participate in the "peaceful, prayer-and-picket demonstrations against the NEA leadership’s pro- abortion agenda" represent millions who can’t attend in person.

"By peacefully and prayerfully picketing the NEA’s convention and offices across America, pro-life citizens can publicly reaffirm that we express our concern, compassion, and desire for true justice through lawful and constitutional means using reason and rational discourse in the American tradition of the public square," he told LifeNews.com.

Pawson, an NEA-NJEA teacher in Trenton, New Jersey, says abortion has significant economic and education-related side effects many people don’t notice.

"Abortion is the primary factor causing America’s economic recession," he explained.

Pawson cites the economic duress as a direct result of killing 50 million people who could be contributing to the economy.

"America is suffering the consequences for killing fifty-million people who are supposed to be among us today as teachers, producers, consumers, taxpayers, leaders, inventors, and problem-solvers," he says. "It’s no surprise that a nation which slaughters nearly twenty percent of its future customers, investors, and entrepreneurs also kills its own economy."

"The NEA leadership’s support for abortion has led to the destruction of fifty-million students and simultaneously eliminated hundreds of thousands of teaching careers and education-related jobs," Pawson continued.

"Surely, some of those dead students were the ones God sent to cure AIDS, end world-hunger, and create clean- energy technologies," he said.
