Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — An elderly woman who volunteers at a late-term abortion center in Kansas was part of a group of Gold Star Mothers whom President Barack Obama honored at the White House on Monday as part of a Memorial Day ceremony. Betty Pulliam low her son in Vietnam but now she works with George Tiller.
He is the infamous late-term abortion practitioner in Kansas who has been the subject of repeated investigations for allegedly violating state late-term abortion laws and killing a disabled teen in a botched abortion.
During the event, Pulliam had breakfast with Obama and other nominees.
She told the Wichita Eagle of her role as a Gold Star Mother, "You really don’t want to belong to this club because in order to belong to this club, you have to lose a child. So nobody wants to belong to it."
However, one pro-life group thinks it is inappropriate that Pulliam was honored, given that she now works to destroy the lives of women and unborn children at Tiller’s abortion business.
Operation Rescue president Troy Newman tells LifeNews.com he finds her statement ironic.
"How ironic that Pulliam could make such a statement when she has dedicated a large portion of her life to insuring that other women lose their children to abort," he said. "It is hypocrisy at best, and perhaps stems from some sick need to make sure that other women suffer as she has."
"Abortion, by its very nature, devalues human life. Pulliam’s work at Tiller’s abortion clinic, which specializes in particularly heinous late-term abortions on healthy, viable babies, is a major contributor to that devaluation," he added.
Newman concluded: "On a day when our country honored those who willingly sacrificed the precious gift of life for the sake of others, Pulliam’s work taking innocent lives through abortion dishonors their brave sacrifice."
